It comes as no surprise that as a species, we’ve evolved into very visual beings. Our sight may be considered our strongest and most important sense. It is largely responsible for our having survived and thrived for this long on our planet. Our ability to detect movement, recognize patterns and colors, and perceive shadows is what has allowed us to ultimately succeed as a species.
But there is a different kind of vision. This vision is one that helps us survive and succeed in business. This vision is not related to our actual ability to see with our eyes, but our innate ability to visualize the positive outcome of our actions. Our vision, then, is the ability to consciously choose which direction we go and ultimately how far forward we’ll go in our business.
Vision is just one piece of the puzzle though. Anyone can have vision. Lots of people do – but seeing that vision manifest into a reality is something completely different. Along with vision, organization and action are required. This combined focus in essential in turning the vision into reality.
What is focus in business exactly? Well, it is the ability to concentrate on the task at hand, complete it over and over again, in order to arrive at the ultimate end goal. It’s not something everyone is born being good at, and for many, it takes practice and discipline to be able to focus effectively. Effective focus means focusing on the one thing – that one task – until completion, and only when that task is complete, moving on to the next.
Of course, even though you should be focusing on one thing at a time, you still need the ability to turn on a dime, recognize when that focus needs to be placed elsewhere, and change your focus. When necessary, you will need to pivot and prioritize in your business.
In business, situations can change in the matter of a heartbeat. Learning to focus on one thing at a time and having the capacity and vision to change direction quickly, will spell the success of your business!
